ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Georgetown Police said first responders worked on a Wednesday morning crash involving an 18-wheeler and six other vehicles on southbound I-35 near the 257-mile marker by Southeast Inner Loop—drivers were advised to use alternate routes as all southbound lanes were closed.  KXAN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Overnight storms brought rain and hail to Central Texas, with residents in parts of Williamson County and Georgetown reporting damage to roofs and windows. Roofing contractors inspected the damage as officials noted rain chances will persist through Friday.  FOX 7
  • Overnight severe weather moved through Central Texas and brought hail that measured just over an inch—about the size of a large quarter—and up to 1 inch of rain to parts of SE Georgetown. Meteorologist Kristen Currie confirmed the storm affected Williamson County.  KXAN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Texas Senate approved a bill to boost property tax relief for seniors and disabled Texans by raising the additional homestead exemption from $10,000 to $60,000 on top of the standard $100,000 exemption. The legislation now moves to the House and will be put before voters in November—aiming to save eligible homeowners over $950 in taxes per year.  KXAN

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hill Country Humane Society confirmed that two cases of canine distemper have been reported in owned pets in Kingsland and urged pet owners to vaccinate their animals as soon as possible. Officials explained the disease attacks respiratory+ gastrointestinal and nervous systems and spreads easily through airborne exposure, though shelter pets remain unaffected.  KXAN
