CRIME NEWS

  • Georgetown police responded to a road rage shooting on April 24 in the 300 block of Woodstone Drive after one motorist shot at another — the victim was unharmed — and detained the shooter while placing Tippit Middle School on secure hold.  FOX 7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Williamson Audubon Group installed over 20 gourd-shaped birdhouses along the Katy Crossing Trail in San Gabriel Park to give Purple Martins a nesting spot. Every Thursday at 6 p.m., Kendall Britt checks the birdhouses for new activity (the structure is set atop pine needles spread by the group).  The Williamson County Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • For the third time in three years, Georgetown’s Historic Architectural Review Commission denied building owner Adam Starr’s request to change the facade of the retail building at 817 South Austin Avenue—two businesses there will leave by the end of May.  The Williamson County Sun
  • On April 16, three Georgetown City Council candidates spoke to Sun City residents about current city issues in a candidate forum. Early voting began on April 22 and will continue until April 29 — District 3 features newcomers Ben Butler and Joe Orsak — while District 4 is represented by incumbent Ron Garland with the election scheduled for May 3.  The Williamson County Sun
  • Georgetown will spend about $1.9 billion over the next five years to replace water lines, relocate them, upgrade lift stations, build new treatment plants, and finish other water projects—City Manager David Morgan said the cost projection is very high.  The Williamson County Sun
