- ➤ Travis County fire officials announced a new wildfire readiness initiative that will educate builders, landscapers, emergency responders and homeowners in eastern Travis County on reducing fire risks. Pflugerville Fire Department Chief Nick Perkins said the program teaches methods like fortifying structures and creating a defensible five-foot zone around properties — a key step since sparks can travel up to a mile and a half.
