- ➤ The Texas legislature today approved Senate Bill 8 that requires counties with jails or private jail contracts to partner with ICE under the 287(g) program—sheriffs can choose from three enforcement models and may receive a grant ranging from $80,000 to $140,000 for training and operations. The bill passed after lawmakers agreed on the final language a day before the deadline, setting new rules for local law enforcement in immigration matters. KXAN

- ➤ Meteorologist Tommy House interviewed Dr. Rena Carlson—immediate past President of the American Veterinarian Association—who said Georgetown pet owners must protect dogs from summer heat by avoiding hot cars and ensuring there is plenty of shade and water. She explained that signs of heat stress, such as heavy panting, vomiting and unsteady behavior, need quick action to keep pets safe. KXAN
