- ➤ Central Texas is set to celebrate Independence Day on July 4th with a range of events — from picnics and parades to fireworks shows — across Travis, Williamson and Hays counties. Georgetown will host its free 42nd Annual Sertoma Club Family Celebration featuring an auto show, live music and a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. KXAN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On June 12, the National Science Foundation announced that the Giant Magellan Telescope has entered its final design phase as a key step toward federal funding, with an estimated cost of $2 billion and parts being made in Texas. The telescope, which will be 10 times stronger than Hubble, will help scientists study dark matter and let researchers at local universities (University of Texas and Texas A&M) operate it remotely.
