COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Central Texas animal rescue groups are working to reunite missing pets with their families after the flash floods from Independence Day. Volunteers and donations support search efforts—keeping animals safe until owners can be located.  KXAN

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Georgetown wildlife rehab center All Things Wild Rehabilitation is caring for more than 500 animals as of Thursday, including over 130 flood-affected ones taken in since last Friday. The nonprofit seeks donations, volunteers, and 5–10 acres of land to expand its facility—efforts it says are vital for sustained care.  KXAN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 8, the city manager’s office presented Georgetown’s preliminary Fiscal Year 2026 budget that totaled $1.3 billion across all funds — it was $457.4 million higher than FY 2025 and set the property tax rate at 36 cents per $100 valuation.  The Williamson County Sun

HEALTH NEWS

  • Williamson County officials confirmed that a person in their 40s from southern Williamson County was diagnosed with West Nile neuroinvasive disease on July 3. The health district said no mosquito samples have tested positive and urged residents to protect themselves from bites + contact a healthcare provider if symptoms occur.  KXAN
  • Williamson County confirmed its first West Nile virus case in 2025 in a resident from the south who was diagnosed with West Nile neuroinvasive disease on July 3—officials note that this case is not linked to the recent flooding. Health officials urge everyone to remove standing water and use EPA-approved insect repellent to lower the risk of mosquito bites—especially for those at higher risk of severe symptoms.  FOX 7
