Experts explained that a 100-year flood means there is a one-percent chance of heavy rain in a year and depends on factors like rainfall amount, duration and local conditions, while a 1000-year flood shows even rarer weather.
The report noted that catastrophic flooding hit Central Texas this month and caused major loss of life and damage.
Central Texas faces life-threatening flash floods, and AAA Texas representative Daniel Armbruster warned drivers not to restart engines if floodwater enters their cars (which can severely damage the engine) and advised contacting insurance promptly for repair claims.
