  • Georgetown Public Library will host a kitten adoption event on August 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as dozens of kittens will be available for $35 in support of the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter—the first 30 minutes are reserved for speed round cuddling and meet-and-greets.  The Williamson County Sun
  • After 82 years, First Lieutenant Charles Woodruff 'Woody' McCook’s remains will come home to Georgetown when a memorial procession departs VFW Post 8587 at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, August 2 and travels through town to IOOF Cemetery so that he can finally be laid to rest after modern DNA tests confirmed his identity.  The Williamson County Sun

  • Williamson County Commissioners began Phase 1 of a new jail project on July 22 — directing Kitchell/CEM Inc. to assess the current justice system, forecast future needs and identify potential sites for the facility.  The Williamson County Sun

HEALTH NEWS

  • Albertsons is recalling ten tuna salad products from stores in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma—made by Reser's Fine Foods—after the FDA warned that the items may be contaminated with listeria. Consumers are advised to return any recalled product for a refund and sanitize affected surfaces, though no illnesses have been reported.  KXAN
