Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 31st of July.
Good morning, Georgetown.
🏘️ Community
The Assistance League of Georgetown Area launched a volunteer partnership with ABC Home and Commercial Services on July 15 during a Community Partner Day event at its thrift shop on North Austin Avenue.
ABC volunteers helped customers—organizing merchandise, moving large furniture and completing minor maintenance projects while supporting the nonprofit's main revenue source.
🏛️ Government
Recent floods have damaged areas outside Georgetown, and city officials used strict floodplain rules to protect residents, as shown when the San Gabriel River flooded on July 5.
Governor Abbott has called a special session to discuss measures such as flood sirens — ideas that could improve early warnings and safety in high-risk areas.
