Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 3rd of August.
Good morning, Georgetown.
🏘️ Community
Yesterday, a procession honoring First Lt. Charles Woodruff McCook wound through downtown Georgetown with military honor guards, motorcyclists, and community members gathering along Main and College streets before the ceremony ended at IOOF Cemetery.
The service featured a flyover by the B-25 Devil Dog (from the Commemorative Air Force) and a presentation of a Purple Heart to family members.
🏛️ Government
Williamson County commissioners approved WCEMS’s application to seek an LCRA grant for a Zodiac FC-420 water rescue boat and protective gear costing nearly $39,300—this move comes after the service said borrowing boats slowed rescue efforts during the July 4 flooding and that having its own boat would improve response times. The team of 14 trained swift water rescuers must match 20% of the cost if the grant exceeds $5,000.
