BUSINESS NEWS

  • Georgie’s, a coastal restaurant serving fresh seafood, opened this summer on Georgetown Square in the former Barrel’s and Amps space—owned by Matt Luckie, Mike Farr and chef Shane Stark who introduced Southern-influenced dishes. The menu features items like red fish and tuna poke tacos, and the restaurant will gradually extend hours with a Sunday brunch to meet neighborhood demand.  The Williamson County Sun

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the northside of the downtown parking garage will display a new mural by graffiti artist ARCY that highlights Georgetown’s history plus features Longhorn images and southwest fauna from the Chisholm Trail days. The artwork is part of the city’s project to celebrate local heritage.  The Williamson County Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgetown officials are considering updated building codes and local amendments—steps aimed at lowering housing costs—Mayor Josh Schroeder said during a September 23 city council workshop; further discussions will set how these measures may reduce consumer expenses.  The Williamson County Sun
  • On September 23, city council decided that annual project requests from Friends of the Library and Friends of Parks and Recreation will be added into the city budget process to fund both wishlist and essential programs+ the nonprofits help support city departments with donations.  The Williamson County Sun

HEALTH NEWS

  • UT Austin’s Dell Medical School launched the BRAINFIT study for Sun City residents over 60 to measure brain waves during everyday activities; researchers held a September 26 presentation that drew 220 attendees and sparked interest from 165 potential participants. Participants will complete cognitive assessments and wear small electrodes—attached while riding a recumbent bike or playing computer games—to help determine how daily activities affect brain health.  The Williamson County Sun
