Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 31st of October.
Good morning, Georgetown.
🏘️ Community
Women Helping Others met with Williamson County Brown Santa and Sheriff Matthew Lindemann in October to back the nonprofit that provides toys, clothing and books to about 600–800 rural families each year; volunteers and year‑round donations are accepted at the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, listed drop-off sites, or by calling 737-667-4102.
🎭 Culture
Mount Horeb Cemetery preserves the story of Gabriel Mills, a settlement that formed around Samuel Mather’s 1849 gristmill on the north fork of the San Gabriel River and faded by the 1920s.
The community once hosted a Masonic lodge that met on full‑moon Saturdays and endured floods, Comanche raids, and a post office closure in 1905.
🏛️ Government
Georgetown Parks and Recreation will add youth soccer and youth volleyball to its 100 percent cost recovery program this fall, which charges nonresidents higher fees to cover program costs.
The program, launched in 2025, already covers group swim lessons, summer camps, and youth basketball.
🏈 Sports
Southwestern opened the new Multi-Purpose Sports Complex at Dice Field with a 44-20 win over Rhodes, drawing a sold-out crowd (more than 2,000) as QB Jacob Smith rushed for 180 yards and four touchdowns.
The men's soccer team is 13-1-1 and has clinched an SAA tournament berth.
